Solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement

NCUFF stands in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement now underway in our city and elsewhere.

As champions of worker rights, equality, and fairness, we support individuals and groups demonstrating for economic, social, and political justice. The Occupy Wall Street movement highlights the economic, political, and social forms of inequality of our times. Among these we see that collective bargaining rights are under attack; higher education funding continues to be slashed; millions of people have lost their homes, become unemployed, go hungry, and/or lack healthcare insurance. Yet, major U.S. corporations are posting record profits during a time of economic instability and their employees earn millionaire bonuses for their performance. Promises of job creation have been replaced by cuts in wages, benefits, and state workers. It is time to stand up for the rights of people over profit. Working people call on corporations, big banks, and the financial industry to do their part to create good jobs, stop foreclosures and pay their fair share of taxes. We stand by those with the courage to rise up and demand a better America.
